Mobile app for iOS and Android
one codebase, both platforms
- iOS
- Android
- offline
A mobile app for iOS and Android can be built from a single codebase, so you do not pay twice for the same thing. NLP Akadémia was built this way in three days and runs on both platforms.
For a long time a mobile app only paid off for large companies, because it had to be made twice. Once for iPhone and once for Android, two different people, double the price and double the maintenance.
Today it can be written once and wrapped into both. It is not a compromise you can feel. The app installs from the store, works offline and can use the camera and notifications like any other.
When an app makes sense
When someone uses it regularly and in the field. Adam opens AJ Bikes every morning in the workshop and needs to photograph bikes and move statuses with a finger, not click a mouse.
If someone is going to open it once every six months, an app is not the answer. Then a website that works on mobile is enough, and you save yourself the money and the hassle of the app stores.
NLP Akadémia in three days
The company running NLP Akadémia’s podcast app shut down. I took the original application apart, worked out exactly what it did, and rebuilt it. Theirs this time, with nobody else holding access.
Running it costs nothing. The app has no server to look after. It keeps everything it needs on the phone and takes its content from the feed the brand publishes anyway. No monthly fee, and nothing that can go down at midnight.
